GKR Karate Australian National Championships 2018

The following outlines the Kata Requirements for the 2018 GKR Karate Australian Championships. As was the case with last year’s World Cup and Australian Titles, the first round of each kyu grade event requires every competitor to perform a common kata. The first round kata required for each grade division is listed below, along with katas allowed to be performed in subsequent rounds. The kata stipulations for the Junior and Senior Open divisions are different from the kyu grade requirements and they are outlined below also.

8th – 7th kyu Division

First round kata – Taigyoku Shodan

Second round onwards – Either Taigyoku Shodan or Nidan, Saifa, Bassai Dai

Competitors may repeat any kata previously performed as they progress through each round.

6th – 4th kyu Division

First round kata – Saifa

Second round onwards – Saifa, Bassai Dai, Seuinchin, Empi

Competitors may repeat any kata previously performed as they progress through each round.

3rd kyu + division

First round kata – Bassai Dai

Second round onwards – Any kata in the GKR Karate syllabus from Saifa upwards

Competitors may repeat any kata previously performed as they progress through each round.

Open Divisions (Jnr & Snr)

First round kata – Either Saifa, Bassai Dai, Seuinchin or Empi

Second round onwards – Any kata in the GKR Karate syllabus from Saifa upwards

Competitors must perform a different kata in each subsequent round.

Competitors who reach ‘finals’ rounds may repeat a kata they’ve already performed.

Note #1:

There will be no repechage system for Jnr or Snr Open divisions at the 2018 Australian Titles.

Note #2:

None of the above conditions apply to team kata. Any kata may be performed in all team kata divisions and may be repeated each subsequent round.
